COMM 499

COMM 499 is a work in progress and scheduled to be used for both online and face-to-face classes at BYU-Idaho in the Fall 2015 semester. I designed the structural and artistic elements, including the splash banner and full page HTML and CSS.

I am working under the direction of Communication professor, Robyn Bergstrom.  This course design project will be my senior project for the Communication Senior Project course in the Fall 2015 2015 semester. I will also receive a practicum credit for the Spring 2015 semester.

Below are other examples of courses in I-Learn where I created the course structure, and I was the HTML and CSS designer.  I wrote instructional copy for each page and I performed edit reviews. Students working for Instructional Media Developer, Tim Tanner are credited for the splash banner designs.

LDS Business College SMM 105

I completely redesigned the style and content of this course for LDS Business College (LDSBC).  Part of the reconstruction was formatting 14 existing lessons into six progressive modules, with an optional completion certificate available after the second module. The first two modules needed to be clear enough for church groups and couples missionaries to learn to navigate the most popular social media applications, teaching them to “sweep the earth as with a flood.” The last 4 modules introduced students to basic social media marketing practices. They were required to choose an existing business to promote through social media, and track the analytics. Redge Allen supervised this project, but I was given the liberty to research much of the content and design to my liking. After the initial structure, format, and content was in place, LDSBC Social Media Marketing instructor, Lindsey Peterson joined in as the primary content expert. She added to, and revised lesson plans, while I edited the copy and formatted it into the course.

COMM 289

I did not design the artistic element such as the HTML and CSS, but I contributed generously to the technical writing, editing, and course structure.

CS 313

CS 313 was the first course I assisted with when I began working as an assistant designer. It’s my least favorite as far as the design elements, but it is the course that taught me the basics of what I do today at my job. It’s similar to my oldest child – I made lots of mistakes, but learned from and became a better parent with each successive “child.”

HS 425 Medical Specialties Matrix Poster

I created this poster for the online and face-to-face HS 425 course. The instructor asked for a graphic that would neatly display the American Board of Medical Specialties covered in HS 425, and the technologies associated with them. I have cropped the image to serve the purpose of this page, to about 1/3 of the original length.
